TapRoot Lands Contract with 3G Chip Manufacturer

Research Triangle Park, N.C. — TapRoot Systems, a developer of software for smartphone applications, has landed a contract with semiconductor chip manufacturer Freescale.

Financial terms weren’t disclosed.

Freescale, which is based in Austin, Texas, plans to utilize TapRoot in its third-generation, or 3G, chipsets for mobile phones that use the Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system.

“The combination of Windows Mobile 6.1, Freescale’s latest 3G silicon technology, and TapRoot’s technology will provide an integrated, high performance, cost effective platform for [original equipment manufacturers] and [original design manufacturers] to produce differentiated smartphones,” said TapRoot Chief Executive Officer Bob Bicksler.

TapRoot, which has been working on technology for mobile use of WiMax technology, enables mobile software solutions for a wide variety of devices.
