Raleigh, N.C. — A Chicago law firm is opening an office in the Triangle with two lawyers leaving Hutchison Law Group to man it.
Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, which focuses on intellectual property law, dates back 91 years. The firm also has offices in Virginia, Indiana, Michigan and Utah. It has some 150 attorneys.
Allen Baum and Josh Elliott, partners at Hutchison, are joining the Chicago firm. Both signed on with Hutchison in 2004. They focus on pharmaceutical, biochemistry, biotechnology and chemical patent law.
Hutchison announced their departure on Wednesday.
“We are not surprised that a firm of Brinks Hofer’s stature would be interested in both coming to the Triangle and employing talented lawyers who have practiced with us.,” Hutchison Law Group founder Fred Hutchison said in a statement. “We regret losing them but we expect to continue to deliver the highest quality legal and strategic advice to our clients in the corporate and securities, intellectual property and employment law areas.”
According to the statement, the Chicago firm will make an announcement about its Triangle office later this week.
“The fact that Brinks Hofer has decided to open an office in the Research Triangle area presented a new and exciting opportunity,” Baum said in the statement from Hutchison Law Group. “Our work with Hutchison Law Group has been more than professionally fulfilling and we expect to be collaborating with the firm in the future.”
