Motricity Executive Signs on as Chief Operating Officer at Hosted Solutions

Raleigh, N.C. — Christopher Turco, a former senior executive at Motricity, is the new chief operating officer at Hosted Solutions.

Turco, who is known as Kip, is part of an expanded management team Hosted is putting in place as part of its $140 million acquisition by ABRY Partners, a private equity firm. The company will be announcing at least one other senior executive appointment in the near future, according to Chief Executive Officer Rich Lee.

Turco, who competed with Hosted when he was an executive in the Triangle with Inflow, will report to Lee. He will focus on day-to-day operations while Lee addresses longer-term strategic plans, according to the company.

“I am responsible for shoring up critical company procedures that tie back to revenues and making the company run more efficiently,” Turco told Local Tech Wire. “I will look at all systems and all process to be sure the company is capable of expanding rapidly over the next 12 to 24 months.”

Lee plans to explore acquisitions and new data-center locations for Hosted.

“The company has already been growing at a tremendous clip over the last three to five years,” Turco said. “I am to ensure that the company is running smoothly and effectively and is prepared to scale with the proper software, systems and personnel.”

Hosted operates two data centers in the Triangle, two in Charlotte and one in metropolitan Boston.

“Everything we’re doing right now positions us to take the company to the next level,” Lee said in a statement. “Our recent partnership with ABRY Partners provides us with the capital to accelerate our growth, and now that Kip is on board, we have more executive firepower. As we aggressively expand the company and move into new markets, he will help us scale the business effectively, get stronger operationally and be more disciplined in our processes.”

Turco left Motricity last month as the company launched a major restructuring and began laying off most of its 250 employees in Durham. Motricity is relocating its headquarters to Washington state.

Before joining Hosted, Turco said he wanted to be sure the firm would keep its headquarters in Raleigh. He and his family live in the Triangle.

“I used to run all operations and engineering at Motricity, and most of those positions and headquarters are moving west,” Turco said. “My affinity for the area pushed me to look for an opportunity locally.”

With the additional financial resources provided by ABRY, Turco said Hosted will add more services and personnel to meet market needs and opportunities.

A graduate of West Point, Turco served as a platoon leader in the Army’s 10th Mountain Division and a company commander in the 25th Infantry Division.
