Siemens Medical to Add 300 Jobs, Invest $60M at Cary Campus

Cary, N.C. — Siemens Medical Solutions USA is going to add 300 jobs and invest $60 million at its campus in Cary, and the state Thursday approved an incentive grant for those moves. 

For expanding in Cary, the Siemens business unit is eligible to receive up to $5.6 million in tax rebates through the North Carolina Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG) program. Currently, 678 people work at the Cary campus.

The N.C. Economic Investment Committee approved the JDIG on Thursday.

“For a decade, Siemens Medical Solutions has been a successful part of North Carolina’s growing health-care industry,” Gov. Mike Easley said in a statement. “Their expansion and new technology training headquarters in Cary will offer more citizens good-paying, knowledge-based jobs and help to provide our state’s work force with the skills and services medical businesses in the global economy demand.”

Siemens Medical Solutions, which is part of Germany-based Siemens and Siemens Health Care, provides high-tech medical equipment and related services. The Cary campus is used for training and services.

“The incentives offered by both the state and the Town of Cary, along with the highly skilled work force in Wake County, make North Carolina an exciting location for Siemens Medical Solutions to expand its operations to meet growing demand,” said Mirko Schueppel, Siemens Medical’s vice president and controller of finance administration. “Siemens Medical Solutions was also impressed by the three excellent universities located near RTP and the continuous development of the Cary community.”

The new jobs will be for training and service personnel. The average wages will be $73,000, the company said.

The $60 million investment will include building a training and service headquarters in Cary.

The first new jobs will be created in 2009, according to the JDIG agreement.

According to the Department of Commerce, Siemens Medical Solutions will receive $5.6 million over 10 years if all terms of the agreement are met. An additional $1.8 million will be paid into North Carolina’s rural industrial development program since the company chose to locate in one of the state’s top, or tier 1, counties.
