RALEIGH, N.C. — Cameron Village, the first shopping center in the Southeast, is celebrating its 60th birthday with a week of 1960s-themed anniversary events.

Organizers say the GrooveFest events, which kicked off Sunday with an antique car show, will remind people of Cameron Village's history.

"This was planned from the beginning as a lifestyle center – shopping, residential and office – which was very visionary and innovative in 1949," organizer Sean Graham said.

GrooveFest will end next Sunday with a concert featuring a Beatles cover band
