New York — Leo Lambert, president of Elon University, rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Monday, accompanied by several university alumni who work in the financial industry in New York.
Lambert took the daily ceremonial duty while in Manhattan for events that are part of the university's $100 million Ever Elon campaign.
Mary Gowan, dean of Elon's Love School of Business, joined Lambert and several other university officials.
The ringing of the bell marks the start of the day's trading on the stock exchange.
