Raleigh, N.C. — Unemployment remained steady in most area counties in October, according to new figures from the state Employment Security Commission.
Wake, Durham, Chatham, Cumberland and Harnett counties saw no change in their unemployment rates from September, while rates in Orange and Nash counties edged up. Unemployment rates in Johnston, Franklin, Granville and Moore counties dipped slightly.
Lee, Edgecombe and Hoke counties saw increases of 0.2 to 0.3 percentage points in their rates between September and October.
“Since January, 85 counties have lower unemployment rates," ESC Chairman Harry Payne said in a statement. "We see that employment (not-seasonally adjusted) has increased by 82,390 workers. North Carolina businesses continue to add workers and new job announcements give us hope that this growth will continue.”
