RALEIGH, N.C. — Lt. Governor Bev Perdue was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award Thursday by the North Carolina Technology Association.

The annual award is presented to people who have demonstrated a career-long commitment to the advancement of the technology industry in the state.

“I’m honored to receive this award,” Perdue said. “It’s a reflection of the successes our partnership has had, including opening the Defense and Security Technology Accelerator in Fayetteville and increasing technology in our schools. And it’s that kind of partnership that’s going to make sure North Carolina is prepared to compete in the global economy.”

The Defense and Security Technology Accelerator fosters collaborations with the military, entrepreneurs and innovators in the development of defense and security technology solutions for the military and private industry.

Perdue chairs the Business Education Technology Alliance, which was established to expand technology in all levels of education, and she has worked to boost funding for school technology initiatives.

She also has backed the use of technology in health care, including telemedicine initiatives, online tobacco prevention and fitness training for students and educators and online health risk assessments.
