GARNER, N.C. — Butterball LLC, the nation’s largest turkey producer, announced Thursday that it would move its corporate headquarters from Mount Olive to Garner by next spring.

The move to the Greenfield North business park near the intersection of Interstate 40 and U.S. Highway 70 involves a $12 million investment and about 70 management jobs.

“Our company has a strong tradition in North Carolina dating back to 1986, and we are proud that our headquarters will remain in our great state,” Butterball President and Chief Executive Officer Keith Shoemaker said in a statement. “We quickly realized that Garner offers us numerous advantages. We are a big company with a family culture, and the town of Garner gives us a hometown base within easy reach of all the amenities the Triangle has to offer – an international airport, a talented labor pool and a vibrant business climate.”

Mount Olive-based Carolina Turkeys purchased the Butterball division from ConAgra Inc. last year and adopted the well-known brand's name.
