FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cape Fear Valley Health System will eliminate 86 positions in the next two weeks, according to hospital officials.

Despite the cutbacks, no one will lose a job, spokesman Clinton Weaver said.

Thirty positions already are vacant, and employees in the remaining positions slated to be cut will be given the option of accepting other jobs within the hospital system, Weaver said. Employees will be allowed to keep their existing jobs until new positions open up, he said.

Most of the eliminated positions are clerical and administrative and support staff.

In switching jobs, some employees could move to a higher pay grade and others could see their salaries drop remain the same, he said.

Employees who don't accept a different position will be given a severance package.

The moves are the result of lower revenue in the hospital system, Weaver said.
