FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Many veterans are struggling to find jobs, so Fayetteville hosted a job fair for them Friday morning.

About 800 active-duty service members and those just out of the military signed up for the "Hiring Our Heroes" event at the Crown Center, where more than 80 employers were on hand to meet with job seekers.

"A lot of it is just, you know, you fill out your application and put in your resume, and they'll send you an email thanking you for applying – and then nothing," said Anthony Figueredo, who recently completed a nine-month deployment to Iraq with the Army Reserve.

Before the job fair, organizers offered a workshop for veterans to brush up on interviewing skills, write or update resumes and practice interviewing.

Figures released in January showed about 13 percent of Afghanistan and Iraq veterans cannot find a job, compared with about 11 percent a year earlier.
