NASHVILLE, N.C. — Despite controversy over a proposed chicken processing plant in Nash County, Sanderson Farms continues to move ahead with plans for the operation.

The company bought 26 acres near the intersection of N.C. Highways 97 and 58 this week.

Nash County leaders want the processing jobs, but the city of Wilson is suing to block the proposed plant.

A spokesman for Sanderson said the company is committed to building another plant in North Carolina, but issues must still be resolved.
