— Target officials said Monday that the retail chain would close one of its Raleigh stores in January.

The Target at 4700 Green Road will close on Jan. 28. All eligible employees are being offered the option to transfer to nearby Target stores, officials said.

The store opened in 1995, but officials said its financial performance warranted that it be closed.

When I moved here in 1996, that was the only Target Store in Raleigh. Now I find myself rarely shopping there. I always go to the one behind Triangle Town Center, at North Hills or the one by my house.
I can see why they are closing it. The one at Triangle Town Center in only a few miles away. Hopefully something good will move into it's space.

I've done a fair amount of shopping at that target and it always seemed busy when I went in. I can't think of another retailer of that size to fill the space. Maybe a Costco would fit in there nicely.
