I didn't have to work today because of the snow. So I spent the morning before the inauguration finishing off the post about Duke University and the yearbooks (I'd been working on that post since last Thursday, thanks to the problems I was having with the Google Custom Search Engine I'd made.) I spent during the inauguration watching TV. And now I'm spending afterwards reading the news, catching up with the e-mail, and reading President Obama's blog.
Yes, of course he has a blog! About the same time the swearing-in was going on, a new Whitehouse.gov was going up. President Obama's blog is at http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/. The site has an RSS feed, but sorry, Scott at howRDUdoin?, no comments are enabled.
(I'm also a little bemused by the title tag. It just says "Blog." I didn't know if that's kind of a "Duh, don't you know where you are?" title, or whether someone was in a big hurry. But considering the number of keywords that the designers stuffed in the head of the page, one would think that they would have spent more time on the actual page title. If they're going practical, I would suggest "Whitehouse.gov Blog". If not necessarily going practical, I would suggest "Obamablog.")
Our new President also has a Twitter account! Whitehouse.gov is Twittering at http://twitter.com/whitehouse_gov . There's another Twitter account for "The Head of the Executive Branch" at http://twitter.com/TheWhiteHouse . If you look at these two accounts, you can see that they in turn are following several other government-related Twitter accounts, including the US Supreme Court, the House Floor, and lots of Members of Congress. If you're looking for a political Twitterer closer to home, check out Congresswoman Virginia Foxx of NC's 5th District: http://twitter.com/VirginiaFoxx.
(Remember, you don't need a Twitter account to read any of these accounts on Twitter. Just visit the pages.)
Meanwhile, closer to home, Governor Perdue has the same blog but now she's also got a YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/governorbevperdue . Hey, there's Pam Saulsby! There aren't many videos here yet but it was just launched January 17th.
Meet the new President, Twittering and blogging
