There's been a lot of news lately about the number of CRT televisions and monitors that have made it or are headed to the landfills. So I was happy to see an announcement about recycling last week from Sharp Electronics. The company has announced that it's established a nationwide program for recycling Sharp, Panasonic, and Toshiba products.
Starting January 15, Sharp will have 280 recycling sites throughout the US to accept Sharp, Panasonic, and Toshiba televisions and other audio and visual electronics equipment. You can get a full map of the pickup locations in the southern US at http://www.mrmrecycling.com/collection_south.htm . Note that there are just two pickup places in North Carolina -- one in Burlington and one here in Raleigh. The one in Raleigh will need you to get an online voucher before you take your electronics over there -- follow the links. (The voucher's free and can be produced online.)
Do you have a complete computer system you need to get rid of? Don't take it to the recycling service and don't take it to the landfill! Wake County has a long list of organizations that accept computer systems to refurbish and donate to those in need.
