I have a couple family members who are still on analog TV -- that is, they don't have cable or satellite and watch the evening news the old fashioned way -- with rabbit ears! I'm passing the time waiting for converter box coupons by researching both the converter boxes and the whole upgrade process. (I know it's not too complicated, but if I don't get the converter box installed correctly and someone misses her Lawrence Welk, I'm in serious trouble.)
I thought everybody was switching over in February, so imagine my surprise when I dropped by the Gov Gab blog and saw that Wilmington is switching over to DTV on September 8! First in Flight, as it says on the Web page, and first in digital. In just a couple of weeks we'll have a front row seat to see how smoothly the DTV transition goes.
Do you need coupons to get a converter box? You can still order them at https://www.dtv2009.gov/. It looks like if you order your coupons this week they'll be mailed on September 19 (that's the "target date", anyway.) Remember, the coupons expire 90 days after mailing. So if you're planning to wait until the last possible minute to buy a converter box, don't get your coupons yet! Wait another month or so.
DTV -- it's happening in Wilmington!
