Site SearchThe Social Security Administration recently released the most popular baby names for 2007. (#1? Emily and Jacob.) In addition to releasing the list, the SSA also has a couple of fun tools available if you like playing with names.
The first tool lets you pick a year and then choose how many of the most popular names you can see -- up to 1000. The 2007 list goes from Jacob and Emily to Trystan and Zaniya. You can choose any year from 1880 onwards; if you're curious 1880 goes from John and Mary to Leonidas and Euna.
The other tool allows you to enter a name and check out its popularity over time. I checked on the name Max (congratulations Elizabeth Gardner!) and got a list of its popularity ranking for the last 100 years. The site also suggested other similar names. (Maximo?)
You can also get the top 1000 names by decade and, starting May 19, you can get the top 5 names by state. There were plenty of names here I'd never even heard of!
