TRLN Offers "Search TRLN"

The Triangle Research Libraries Network, which I mentioned recently with its putting digitized books on Archive.org, has launched a tool for searching all the libraries in the network. It's called Search TRLN and it's available at http://search.trln.org/ . This tool allows you to search across Duke University, North Carolina Central University, North Carolina State University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

That's 16 million volumes you can search at this site, search by title, author, subject headline, ISBN/ISSN, or a general keyword search. I did a search for WRAL just to be silly and got 26 results. The results included DVD videos, books, microfiche, and even a thesis! A nav on the left allows you to narrow down your results by media type, format, and location.

When I clicked on an item title I got a page showing me where the item was (which institution and the call number) along with notes about the item and whether or not it was available. The items I looked at also had subject headings so I could explore similar items.

For more information about who can check out books through this system, interlibrary loan, and what's searchable, check out the TRLN FAQ at http://www.lib.unc.edu/davis/search_trln_faq.html .
