It makes me sad and angry that we have to worry about stuff like this. Digital photo frames are a great idea, but apparently some of them are delivering more than your pictures. According to this article from the SF Gate, several digital photo frames were found to be infected with several Trojans -- nasty programs designed to compromise your computer and steal information.
Apparently the anti-virus programs hadn't quite caught up to them yet, and the article suggests things like plugging in the frame to a Mac or Linux computer first, and checking it there.
The article also includes makes and models of possibly-compromised frames and a people to contact if you think you might have gotten hold of something nasty.
I was going to buy a digital picture frame as a gift for a family member, but now I think I might just wander over to Instructables (one of my favorite sites) and look at its guide to Do-It-Yourself picture frames. I know I've got at least one just-about-dead laptop around here somewhere....
