While I don't do all my shopping via Amazon, I will say it made my Christmas shopping a HECK of a lot easier. Now in addition to easy shopping, I can get easy tracking with a nifty tool called TrackMyShipments.
You get started by going to the Web site ( http://www.trackmyshipments.com/ ), registering for an account (requires an e-mail address and name only) and confirming your account. Once you've done that, you can get started.
Whenever you get tracking information for a shipped package, just forward it to track@trackmyshipments.com. (You might be worried about TrackMyShipments receiving information about what you ordered. I took an Amazon shipping confirmation e-mail and took everything out of it except the estimated arrival date and the tracking number, and it worked fine.)
TrackMyShipments will send you a note when it receives your shipping information. Then when you log on to the Web site, you'll see a control panel with all your shipment details and a cute little map with icons representing where your packages are. You can receive updates on your package's movements by both e-mail and SMS (as there's no request for a phone number when you sign up, I'm not sure where the SMS data is coming from.) You can also add a little note to a tracked item that will come when you get an update on a package's status.
Very easy to use. This site would have come in really handy during the holidays!
