Over at the State Fair Blog, I covered a resource from the North Carolina government – a database of unclaimed property for its citizens (there's millions of dollars in that database!) Here's some more money, honey – a database of unclaimed U.S. tax refunds.
There's over $100 million in this database, money due to more than 115,000 Americans. Are you one of them? You can find out at this Web site .
This database, a service of the National Taxpayers Union, requires only that you enter a last name and, optionally, a state. You'll get a list of names, city/states, and ZIP codes. (You will NOT get amounts.)
And what if you find that some money is owed you? There's no form to fill out; instead you're instructed to call 1-800-829-1040 and follow the IRS instructions to get the refund.
