You may have noticed the brief story here on WRAL.com about CompUSA closing.
I am a fan of CompUSA and have shopped there for years, pretty much since they opened around here. I've found them a good place to get parts, and they carry software that I don't see anywhere else (most notably add-ons for Microsoft Flight Simulator.) And of course, CompUSA is where you go when you need to buy BAWLS soda by the case...
Jessica Nunez, a spokeswoman for CompUSA, told me that the store would close within 30-60 days. I guess after that I'll have to go elsewhere for parts. The question is where.
I often end up going to Best Buy, but there's some serious controversy going on there (in a nutshell, there's concern that the prices on BestBuy.com and the prices on the company's in-store intranet don't match, and Best Buy isn't being clear on why.)
The Tiger Direct on Capital Boulevard is pretty good, but the selection is limited and sometimes it's hard to get anyone to help you (and sometimes it's crazy-crowded!) I'm hearing lots of buzz about Newegg.com. Maybe I need to check them out....

Tiger leaves a bad taste in most peoples' mouths, especially with their reliance on the Mail-In-Rebate "gimmick" that ultimately ends up costing shoppers time, money and the willingness to ever buy from tiger again.
If it is absolutely necessary to buy from tiger, I order from their parent site, globalcomputer.com (exact same inventory, but no sales tax).
