Wired News recently came up with a list of the top tech towns . And hey -- Raleigh-Durham is in the list along with other big cities like Seattle, LA, Washington DC, New York, and Boston.
The Wired article mentions several factors that were evaluated to determine the techniness of our town, including the availability of free Wi-Fi, the proximity to top engineering schools, and the number of Circuit City stores per capita. But I also noticed that there were other, somewhat sillier factors, like the number of comic book stores per capita. Raleigh-Durham scores high on "Personal ads, per capita, on Geek 2 Geek", "Tech jobs, per capita, on Dice", and "Availability of free Wi-Fi".
I've known for a long time that North Carolina has some serious tech mojo; it's nice to see the rest of the country discover it as well!
