Super Bowl Entertainment 30 Seconds at a Time
When the Panthers went plotz I admit my interest in the football season dropped a lot. But I'm still going to tape the Super Bowl. No no, not for the game. You know, for the real entertainment. For the commercials.
What did we do before the Internet? Now we can not only get the current commercials, but there's a lot of archive and commentary about those 30-second snippets of entertainment. If you want to see the Super Bowl ads as they air, visit http://www.ifilm.com/superbowl?htv=12; once you specify you media player (you can choose QuickTime, Real, or Windows Media Player), you can watch the commercials or grab some code that'll embed commercials you choose into your Web page.
Are you nostalgic for the older commercials? Do you miss the famous Mac commercial, or the singing sock puppet from Pets.com? Try Yahoo Video, a search engine for video content from, you guessed it, Yahoo. Yahoo crawls the Web looking for video content, and gathers links to it at Yahoo Video.
I did a search for super bowl puppet and didn't get any results, but I was able to find a couple of old Pets.com commercials by searching for sock puppet commercial. (Once you've found something you want to watch, click on it and it'll take you to the page where the video was found. Remember, just because content was indexed doesn't mean it's still available. In that, unfortunately, Yahoo Video is just like a regular search engine.) Searching for apple super bowl found several links to Apple's famous 1984 video. Remember that wild Levi's commercial from 2002? Searching for super bowl crazy legs found it in three different places. Rather see Terry Tate? super bowl terry tate reebok will give you several options.
If you'd rather browse, search for super bowl commercials or add a product name; for example, super bowl commercials coke. You might find enough to take you through four quarters of viewing. Enjoy the Super Bowl! -- or at least, enjoy the commercials.
Update -- Now Google is offering the Super Bowl commercials at http://video.google.com/superbowl.html. You can pick which ones you want to watch or watch all of them at one time! (That'll take you about 30 minutes.) Enjoy.
