Dude, you're recycling a Dell

Let me just preface this entry with a note that it has nothing to do with laptops bursting into flames.

Instead, let's talk some computer manufacturer good news: Dell has launched a no-charge recycling program for Dell users. Usually programs like this are part of a replacement program -- you buy a new computer, and Dell takes your old one and recycles it. This one is not, and it's open to any users of Dell-branded computers and peripherals. Go online, enter a product identification number, and you'll be able to print a pre-paid shipping label and get an opportunity to schedule home pickup to ship the used computer. Get more details at www.dell4me.com/recycling.

Have an old busted computer you want to get rid of, but it's not a Dell? If you're in Wake County, be sure to download the 2006 Waste and Recycling Guide. It's a PDF and provides a variety of information including a table of the waste dropoff sites and what they'll accept. In addition to computers you can also drop off other electronics equipment. If you've got a huge load of equipment, or something odd that you're not sure the county will take, visit the Trash Takers database, which lists businesses that take any number of disposables, including computers, asphalt, tires, shoes, telephone books, waxed carboard, etc.
