— The drivers of two school buses involved in a collision in Morrisville Wednesday have been charged.

Sharon R. Blount and Jammie B. Batiste were both cited for failure to reduce speed, Morrisville police said.

The wreck happened Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of Cary Parkway and Chapel Hill Road. One bus rear-eneded a car, starting a chain reaction, Morrisville police said.

Both buses were carrying students at the time. One child from the first bus was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries.

I'll bet it wasn't speeding OR cell-phone related. It is all about following distances. The general population doesn't understand how long it takes a car to come to a full stop in an emergency. I had a conversation (yes, a conversation, not an argument) with a woman who was riding my tail at 50mph. You could not fit a full car between our bumpers. I educated her by telling her that at the speed she was traveling, she needed to be able to fit five cars between the two of us. "FIVE CARS?" she asked incredulously. She just didn't get it. Neither did the woman on my behind on the Beltline when I was driving a POLICE CAR. Easily convicted her when she was asked how many cars could have fit between the two of our cars, going 55 mph, and she replied, "One and a half."

It is all about keeping a safe following distance

I remember when I was in school and all school buses had "caps" on the odometers so that they literally couldn't go over 45mph. What happened to that?!!
