— A Clinton City Schools bus driver has been cited for a March 1 wreck that caused a state trooper to crash into a home, authorities said Friday.

Shonda Michelle Chavious, 37, was cited with failing to yield right of way.

Chavious was driving a school bus filled with about 35 to 40 students when she pulled out in front of Trooper D.K. Pearson on North Boulevard in Clinton, authorities said.

Pearson lost control of his patrol car and crashed into a Clinton house. He suffered minor injuries, but no one else was hurt in the incident, authorities said.

Come on guys, use some common sense! It probably took two weeks to be sure of the charges, and it sounds like they got it right!

leo-nc-You wonder why everyone always assume the LEO is out to get them? It's the way LEO's treat everyone. Have you noticed that a LEO never is at fault? The bus driver may have pulled out. I just know that LEO's do themselves no favors by how they treat law abiding citizens.

LEO's are at fault many times in accidents. Before making that comment did you go to the DMV and oh lets see, look at accident reports involving law enforcement and verify that statement? They are public record you should try it sometimes. I know of several accidents where the officer was at fault and was shown at fault on the report and guess what, their personal insurance went up just like yours and mine.

You are entitled to your own opinion yes but the plain and simple fact of it is no matter how fast the Trooper was going, the bus still turned in front of him. And since you probably were not there and probably have no idea what that road might be like, it's pretty sad to ASSUME that he was speeding and well I bet that you Always drive the speed limit don't you? Depending on the road and the situation that could have happened to any of us if the bus had turned in front of us. It's sad that everyone always assumes the worst of law enforcement.

My goodness! What's with all this anti-LEO talk here on Golo? Have we got a bunch of "bad boyz - bad boyz" posting from prisons? Sure seems like many of you have had bad experiences with the law. Seems weird.

I'm just wondering were the LEO's lights and/or sirens on?

  • Scubagirl Mar 19, 2010

Sorry, I'm thinking the bus driver, while sharing some fault, is being made out to take the blame. The LEO was most likely going above the speed limit and was unable to react in time so it's the bus drivers fault. Sorry, that's just how I see it. But I am entitled to my opinion

My post should have stated "why not make sure you know what you're talking about". Sorry for the typo.

Are cops exempt from the no passing a stopped school bus law?"---- NO TROOPER ARE NOT EXEMPT FROM THE LAW. HE COULD HAVE HIT AND KILLED A CHILD FOR HEAVENS SAKE. THEY NEED TO REMOVE HIM FROM THE ROAD IMMEDIATELY. NO OFFICER IS ABOVE THE LAW AND SHOULD BE CHARGE WHEN THEY DO CRIME OR ANYTHING WRONG; LIKE IN THIS CASE.

Why not make sure you not what you're talking about? The bus pulled out from a side street into the path of the oncoming trooper who was in the process of overtaking someone who broke a traffic law. How is he supposed to catch a speeder if he doesn't break the speed limit? If a driver is going 85 in a 70 zone, do you think the trooper can go 85 mph and catch them? I bet you're the type of person who complains about people driving to fast in your neighborhood, but yet you can't understand a LEO breaking the speed limit in an attempt to ticket the speeder. Common sense is something several posters on here lack. Get out in the real world from time to time, instead of b

I wonder how fast he was going? Did they check that?

  • notagain1903 Mar 19, 2010

Yeah, we're always out there putting the common citizen down. What, lets see, because we're bullied in school and have a small man complex? Or maybe it's because we are on a power trip and love to mess with the citizens for kicks. Ya know,
