Burlington stimulus project approved

The state Department of Transportation announced Friday that a road project in Burlington will be among the first to get done using federal stimulus funds.

RALEIGH, N.C. — The state Department of Transportation announced Friday that a road project in Burlington will be among the first to get done using federal stimulus funds.

Yates Construction Co., Inc. bid $13.6 million to widen Mebane Street from two to four lanes between Huffman Mill Road and N.C. Highway 54 (Chapel Hill Road) in Burlington.



Construction is expected to begin as early as April 27, with final completion set for Aug. 15, 2011.
