— Police officers pursuing a burglary suspect hit a teen with their patrol car Tuesday.

Officers spotted someone matching the description of a person believed responsible for several car break-ins in the Battle Park area of Rocky Mount, but he ran when they tried to stop him, police said.

The officers pursued the suspect in their cruiser, and the car struck him off Bethlehem Road, police said.

Eric Gilbert-Murrain, 17, has been charged with two counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle and one count of resisting an officer.

He was taken to Pitt Memorial Hospital, in Greenville, for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The state Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.

There are plenty of reasons to run from authority figures. One of them is guilt. Can't think of any others? Lucky you, then.

  • f6rider Mar 26, 2008

For pete sake, if he was innocent why did he run away from the police? SOUNDS GUILTY TO ME, AND CRIME DOES NOT PAY!

  • RocknRollDoctor Mar 26, 2008

Stop means stop! The kid ran away. Where is the respect for authority in this situation?

Should our law enforcement officers just turn a blind eye to everyone who refuses to respect thier authority?

    Why stop for blue lights?
Why take your shoes off before you get on a plane?
Just run from the cops when ever they want to question you.

Why not? You're innocent until proven guilty.

Technically this kid was guilty from the second he failed to engage his brain before moving his feet. The police have every right to stop and detain this suspect.

Yeah, who needs judges or courts, let cops just run people suspicious people over, great idea.

  • Ozymandias Mar 26, 2008

For crying out loud, doesn't "innocent until proven guilty" mean ANYTHING anymore??

  • Eduardo1 Mar 26, 2008

DHUNTER IT IS "prey not pray" also it is not " more harder" BUT your intent is correct, so I will still give you an "A" Great police work guys, although someone will claim excessive, since a police vehicle is a weapon in the liberal lexicon

When they yell "Stop", he should have!

  • edwar065 Mar 26, 2008

    Excellent police work RMPD.

  • dhunter Mar 26, 2008

Guess he shouldn't have ran huh.
We should be more harder with these idiots who rob, steal, murder and rape people. People who tend to pray on the innocent are nothing but savages. Here is a suggestion instead of stealing go get a job!!!!
