Bunn Middle student killed in wreck

Posted May 2, 2008

— A Bunn Middle School seventh-grader died Thursday after a car in which he was riding slammed into a fence, authorities said.

Tyler Nathaniel Gower, 13, died Thursday night from injuries he received in a one-car wreck about 12 hours earlier, authorities said.

Gower's mother was northbound on John Winstead Road south of Louisburg shortly after 8 a.m. Thursday when she drove left of center, overcorrected and crashed into a fence on the right side of the road, authorities said. She told investigators she was trying to avoid a dog in the road.

The accident remains under investigation.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. My son was in his classes last year so he knew him well. BMS is reaching out to the family and has let all the parents know of this accident. This is a very sad loss all that knew him

God bless that family and the mother. My heart weeps for her. Any parent knows that this is one of our biggest fears, that is the death of a child. I once heard an elderly man speak of the death of one of his children, a son who died at the age of 5 when he fell off the trailor that he was riding on behind the tractor that his father was driving. This man shared that he thanked God for the 5 years he had with his son. That our children are a gift and their death is not an accident. God knows the number of days we have when we are born. There is a reason for everything and instead of being angry at what he lost, he was grateful for what he had. I have always admired that attitude and strength. I pray that I could be as strong.
