Bullet grazes 7-year-old in drive-by shooting

A 7-year-old girl was standing outside in an apartment complex off Hoover Road in Durham when someone fired from a vehicle and then drove away Saturday night.

DURHAM, N.C. — A bullet grazed a 7-year-old girl during a drive-by shooting in an apartment complex at 1126 S. Hoover Road Saturday night, police said.

Investigators said the girl was standing outside when someone fired from a vehicle and then drove away shortly before 10 p.m. Witnesses described the vehicle as a small, four-door, green compact car.

Officers said the girl, whose name wasn't released, was talking and coherent when they arrived. She was taken to Duke University Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries.

Police and forensics investigators were on the scene processing evidence Sunday morning.
