Bull City Craft: Painted paper Christmas garlands

I’m always looking for ways to make something out of the piles and piles of paper that my daughter paints. This paper garland craft is an easy way to use children’s artwork that is headed for the recycling bin or even old Christmas cards or holiday catalogs. The finished garland can be hung on the wall, over a doorway, along the fireplace mantle or even draped around the tree.

Materials:

Use the 2” circle punch to cut out circles. We used 15 circles, but we punched a lot more just because it’s fun!

Cut small rectangles about 1” x .5” out of the gold paper. If you have them, use decorative paper edgers to trim the bottom edge.

Glue the gold pieces to the tops of the circles, overlapping just slightly. The pieces should now look like ball ornaments.

Punch a hole on the top of each gold paper.

String the paper ornaments on the baker’s twine or yarn, tying a knot so that each ornament hangs from a little loop. A large needle is helpful but not necessary. Space out the paper ornaments so that they hang about 4” to 5” apart.

For an easier version, skip the gold paper and simply punch a hole directly in each 2” circle and string them together.
