Budget deal, adjournment in sight
House and Senate leaders say they expect to sign off on a budget deal late Friday or Saturday, finishing the session next week.

The legislature missed its first budget deadline of June 30. Lawmakers gave themselves a deadline extension until the end of July to allow more time for negotiations over both the spending plan and a tax overhaul that will affect the state's bottom line.
The tax deal was unveiled Monday afternoon, passed both chambers Tuesday and Wednesday and arrived on the governor's desk Wednesday night.
Budget negotiators say their deal won't be far behind it.
House Speaker Thom Tillis said Thursday he expects the budget compromise to be officially read into the House on Sunday afternoon, during a so-called "skeleton" (non-voting) session. The House votes on the measure are scheduled for next Tuesday and Wednesday.
Tillis said he expects to wrap up session for the year by the end of next week.
On the other side of the building, Senate Rules Committee Chairman Tom Apodaca said Wednesday that the Senate would hold session Saturday, although that now appears to be in doubt.
The Senate will, however, hold an unusual Friday session. They're expected to take up a voter ID proposal unveiled Thursday in the Rules Committee.
