SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Johnston County Schools officials are considering delaying the openings of two high schools by a year to save money in a tight budget year.

Corinth Holders High School and Cleveland High School are scheduled to open in August 2010, but school board members said Thursday the might push that back a year. The delay would save the school district $2.6 million, which officials said could be used to prevent staff cuts.
