Brush fires dot I-40 in Raleigh, arson suspected

Raleigh, N.C. — Three brush fires ignited along Interstate 40 in Raleigh Sunday afternoon, police said. An older white man driving a black Toyota and his passenger are wanted for questioning in connection with the fires.

Police said it appears someone sprayed lighter fluid on pine straw and set it ablaze.

Lanes were closed near the Lake Wheeler Road, Hammond Road and Gorman Street exits along Interstate 40 while firefighters extinguished the fires.

No other information was released.

I saw 2 similar fires on 147 just off of 40 heading into Durham on Friday evening around 545. Fire trucks were just arriving in both locations.

well since the fire did not get out of control, i guess the forestry service didn't set it.

Too many of these incidents around the Country. 40 fires set by an arsonist in Accomack County, VA on the Eastern Shore and they haven't a clue. The Virginia State Police have taken over the investigation!
