Posted May 13, 2011

A Broughton High School student was arrested Thursday after police said she stole money and important travel documents from an exchange student at the school.

Hannah Anne Johnson, 17, of 3300-306 Cotton Mill Drive, was charged with misdemeanor larceny.

According to an arrest warrant, Johnson stole the student's wallet, which contained $40 in cash and a debit card. She also is accused of throwing away the student's passport.

Police said the exchange student must now go to the Brazilian consulate in Atlanta to get a replacement passport.

Huh. Wonder what they do in Brazil to thieves? Hint: She won't need those mittens this winter! Why Americans shy away from street justice is beyond me.

Good luck to the exchange student. You certainly learned more about the real American then you ever could from a book! Exchange program = a success!

Hey now, do NOT crack on Broughton, it was my high school and in the day was a very prestigious learning institution. No need to say anything b/c of a few bad kids...

Chances are that the exchange student was only scheduled to be here for the school calendar year, and was expecting to head home soon. Try to get a passport or visa replaced quickly! It's not going to happen. My heart goes out to the exchange student, and I'd like to see Ms. Johnson pay the consequences for showing him or her "American hospitality." Why can't we all be courterious and congenial to others??? Is it really that difficult?

I wonder if the booking photo is from this or a previous arrest. At 17 there is a very good chance that she already has a criminal history.

"Let's just calm down, everyone. It only says "accused." There is a good chance that she is completely innocent of all charges, and really the exchange student made the whole story up." - injameswetrust2003

Oh yes, because we know the majority of foreigners are liars...especially those exchange students! They just come over here to ruin our youth! Not saying all of them are angels, but every exchange student I've ever encountered has been way more polite and respectable than most of the American students they were in school with.

So many unrealistic and silly comments. Stop trying to make this more than it is. If she did it, and there is nothing else to the story (probably not), what else needs to be said, Thief gets caught, thief (hopefully) gets punished, and victim hopefully moves on. And why is this theft such a news story, we have thefts at schools every day.

politicians, banks, hospitals steal from everyday hardworking Americans. So if anything the exchange student has learned a lesson in American economics 101

Really, you think they all STEAL from everyday hardworking Americans? Try writing a check without a bank or CU or other financial institution. And don't go to the hospital for an operation go to a butcher shop instead. The bank and hospital are just out to steal from you so get their services elsewhere if you can.
