Bring pets inside, cover fruit: March weekend brings cold nights

“Friday night — with those clear skies, light winds with and dry air, all of that adds up to significant cooling,” said WRAL Chief Meteorologist Greg Fishel. “We just hope it won’t be a damaging for the folks who are growing fruit trees and other fruit crops.”

A reminder to bring all pets inside at night this weekend, and consider covering plants that can’t stand the chilly temperatures.

“There are rural locations that have the potential of getting down to 24 or 26 overnight,” Fishel said. “Some of that is in Moore County, Wake County and Cumberland County.”

“There won’t be much in terms of cloud cover over the course of the next couple of days,” he said. “From an appearance stance, it’s going to be a bright weekend, but the mornings are going to be cold."

Morning temperatures will be chilly. But with a jacket, Saturday should be great for spending time outdoors. With sunny skies, daytime temperatures should stay in the 50s.

“We could have another comparable night of cold Saturday night into Sunday morning. This isn’t something we have had to talk about in quite some time.”

While there’s a chance of a few clouds Sunday, there’s no chance of rain. Sunday's temperatures will be similar to Saturday’s.

Look out for significant warming on Monday and Tuesday, especially during the afternoon. Wednesday and Thursday should be cooler again.

“It looks like the only chance of showers next week comes on Tuesday associated with a cold front that will knock our temperatures down again,” Fishel said.
