BrickUniverse Lego convention opens in Raleigh this weekend
Lego lovers in the Triangle are gearing up for BrickUniverse, a Lego convention that will take over the Raleigh Convention Center this weekend.

The two-day event features Lego galleries, building zones, Lego-related books and more. Lego artist Jonathan Lopes, known for everything from urban buildings to cartoon characters, and master Lego model builder Jason Burik, whose work includes a massive Lego map of the United States and another of Heinz Field, will be on hand with some of their pieces.
Thousands of Lego bricks will be available for participants to build and create. For young kids, there will be a Lego Duplo brick area.
The weekend also includes:
- Lego Bionicle activities with remote control Lego tanks and robotics;
- a challenge area with different Lego challenges and learning sessions throughout the day;
- interactive activities hosted by Jason and Stephen from the widely popular Lego YouTube channel The Brick;
- a model gallery presented by The Brick Show with select Lego models from The Brick Show's own collection;
- a Creations for Charity stand with information about the charity that annually gives LEGO sets to underprivileged children;
- two separate market areas with more than 20 vendors selling Lego products; and
- architecture building activities using only white Lego bricks.
BrickUniverse is open 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $12 in advance online and $15 at the door.
