Bragg soldier killed in Afghanistan

A soldier based at Fort Bragg died Wednesday after insurgents attacked his unit in Afghanistan's Ghazni province, the Defense Department said Thursday.

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — A soldier based at Fort Bragg died Wednesday after insurgents attacked his unit in Afghanistan's Ghazni province, the Defense Department said Thursday.
Sgt. 1st Class Ricardo D. Young, 34, of Rosston, Ark., was assigned to the 738th Engineer Support Company, 307th Engineer Battalion, 20th Engineer Brigade, XVIII Airborne Corps.

Young joined the Army in 1997 and served in three combat tours before being assigned to the 738th ESC. He earned numerous commendations, including a Purple Heart, Army Good Conduct Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

“Sgt. 1st Class Ricardo Young leaves behind a legacy of intense camaraderie with his fellow Soldiers. He had a special sense of humor that endeared him to his fellow man,” said Col. James H. Raymer, 20th Engineer Brigade commander.
