FORT BRAGG, N.C. — A Fort Bragg paratrooper died Tuesday of wounds suffered in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced Friday.

Capt. Paul Pena, 27, of San Marcos, Texas, died in Arghandab River Valley when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device, officials said.

Pena was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division.
