Bragg soldier charged in slaying extradited to NC

A Bragg soldier charged with the murder of a Fayetteville man was arrested in Key West, Fla., authorities said Tuesday.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Bragg soldier charged in the shooting death of a Fayetteville man has been extradited back to North Carolina, authorities said Thursday.

Brandon Joseph Mims, 20, faces charges of first-degree murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle in connection with the Jan. 29 slaying of Michael Ray Staggs, 22.

Police said that Staggs was shot in the head while sitting in a car outside a strip mall at 155 Bonanza Drive.

Mims was name as a suspect in the case on Jan. 31, then caught the next day in Key West, Fla.

He was being processed at the Cumberland County Detention Center late Thursday.
