Apex, N.C. — A Fort Bragg soldier has been charged following a high-speed chase Tuesday afternoon on N.C. Highway 540 in Wake County that ended when a motorcycle slammed into a Wake County Sheriff's Office patrol car.
Jonathan Juarez, 22, was charged with speeding and felony speeding to elude arrest.
A State Highway Patrol trooper clocked a 2007 Honda motorcycle at 110 mph on N.C. 540, also known as the Western Wake Expressway toll road, at about 4 p.m. The posted speed limit is 70 mph.
When the trooper began chase, the motorcycle sped away, eventually reaching 153 mph, authorities said. The motorcyclist left the toll road at N.C. Highway 55 and then tried to exit on U.S. Highway 1 toward Apex when he collided with the Wake County patrol car, authorities said.
There was no word on whether the motorcyclist or any law enforcement officer was hurt in the chase or collision, which closed the ramp from N.C. 55 to U.S. 1 during the evening rush hour.
