RALEIGH, N.C. — Two weeks after Election Day, Republican John Alexander can finally claim victory after a recount in the state Senate District 15 race did not change his margin of victory.

Wake County Elections Director Cherie Poucher told WRAL News that Alexander maintained his less-than-1-percentage-point lead over Democrat Tom Bradshaw when the recount was completed shortly after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Wake County Board of Elections will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday to certify the result.

"I congratulate John Alexander on his election to the North Carolina Senate. I wish him the best as he represents District 15 during the next legislative session," Bradshaw said in a statement.
