Boy's condition critical after near-drowning at Chatham pool

Posted July 23, 2013

— A 6-year-old boy was in critical condition at UNC Hospital Tuesday after he nearly drowned at the Governor's Club pool near Chapel Hill.

The boy went under and was pulled out by a lifeguard on Monday. Foul play is not suspected, authorities said.

The Chatham County Health Department is investigating, which is standard protocol in a near-drowning case.

I had heard that the child passed away at the hospital during the week. This is truly a tragedy. Thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends.

Wait a second... How is her in critical condition of he did not drown? You don't have to die to drown. On can be resuscitated after drowning. Perhaps the author meant "drown to death"? Can someone shed light on this?

Yep, the Governors Club is in Chatham Co. A lot of the upper end of Chatham Co. has a Chapel Hill address.
