— A 5-year-old died Monday after falling off a tractor as his grandfather plowed a field, authorities said Wednesday.

Kennon Ray Wilkins was riding in the tractor's cab with his grandfather and fell out as the tractor made a turn and the cab door swung open, authorities said.

The tractor ran over the boy, and he was pronounced dead at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

The incident occurred shortly after 10:30 a.m. Monday in a field off McDuffie Crossing Road, north of Lumberton.

Authorities have ruled the death and accident, and no charges will be filed.

My prayers are for this family. I ran over my son in 2000 and I still blame myself for it. Please keep the grandpa in your prayers. This is going to be something very hard to deal with.

So sad. I remember riding on my grandfather's tractor & that was way before farmers had the kind with enclosed cabs. My sympathy to this family & hoping the grandfather can find peace that this was a freak accident.

LibertarianTechie I'm with some of the others. you must never have grown up on a farm...did you live near one? probably not! i grew up on my uncles farm, riding the tractor with him. it is the norm around farm towns. its sad that you had to throw your "two cents" in when all you wanted was to make a fight. guess what, bring it on! farm families will continue to do this because it is what we grew up with! take your city slicker self out of the conversation...no one wants you here!

to the family: i am sooo sorry for your loss! i lost a cousin this way when i was 6! her dad still hasnt forgiven himself! keep an eye on the grandfather please! i know this will be eating him up! my prayers and thoughts are with y'all!

LibertarianTechie...never done an honest days work I can guarantee it!

On the farm, this happens all the time. Probably less children die this way than do in the inner city slums that you probably are all for.

I can't imagine how bad this grandfather feels right now. I certainly pray that somehow he finds peace with this, although I'm sure there's little way that he can.

Prayers to the family especially for the grandpa. I know it is very hard on him. I grew up on a farm and riding on a tractor was one of the fondest memories I have.

LibertarianTechie, I see you never grew up on a farm, there is nothing a kid loves better than to ride on a tractor and this was a very tragic accident. For you to put blame on that poor grandpa shows me how cold hearted you are and how much you know. I'm sure he is beating himself up about this and then you post soemthing like that. My prayers are with this family.
