— A Hoke County school bus was involved in a wreck with a car at Fayetteville and Club Pond roads in Raeford Wednesday afternoon, state troopers said.

Witnesses said the driver of a Ford Mustang, Bordell Hedgpeth, turned left in front of the oncoming school bus, which struck the passenger-side door of the car, according to state Trooper Steve Joe.

A young boy, Trevor Hedgpeth, who was a passenger in the Mustang, was flown to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. Relatives said that he was being monitored for head injuries in the intensive care unit, but was in fair condition.

The Mustang driver, Bordell Hedgpeth, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Moore Regional Hospital. Hedgpeth is Trevor's grandfather.

Joe said that two Hoke High School students, ages 14 and 15, were on the bus at the time. Both of them and the bus driver were taken to area hospitals. None appeared to have life-threatening injuries.

Charges are pending in the wreck, Joe said. Both Hedgpeths and everyone on the bus were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.

DOT finally did what i had asked them to do 2 weeks ago and change the lights to a different pattern. How come it took a school bus accident to get it done is my question though. That is the worst intersection that i have to drive thru everyday. Thankfully from the sounds of it no one was seriously hurt.

Prayers for anyone that has to drive thru this intersection.

    Prayers for this child.

He would be in the ICU being monitored as a precaution, just as with any other presumed head traumas , until diagnostic tests are completed......

I agree with OHn8tive about the headline reading "Vehicle hits bus" that what cause the crash and the drive not follwing the rules of the road, do not run the lights that why they put them up. I go by that intersection everyday and individuals always run the light to get into Wal-Mat. Aslo the Deputies of the Hoke Traffic Unit did a great job in controling the scene.

    "Glad no one was hurt..."

What? The story says: "A young boy, Trevor Hedgpeth, who was a passenger in the Mustang, was flown to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. Relatives said that he was being monitored for head injuries in the intensive care unit, but was in fair condition."

Why would he be in ICU if he was not hurt?

    Seat belts on the bus?

  • OHn8tive Sep 15, 2010

Glad no one was hurt. A more accurate headline would have been "Car pulls out in front of bus" My journalism teacher would have a field day with this writer! Accuracy and truthfulness are important!

If people would follow traffic rules, stupid accidents such as this would not happen.

I came across this after it happened. Bus looked good but the car it hit was very bad off. There was a Lifelink chopper there.

I really wish someone would look into this intersection. There is a serious accident there about every 2 - 3 days. I tried calling NCDOT and got no where. I called them after i got into an accident there which totaled out both vehicles. The other driver failed to yield to traffic and pulled right out in front of me trying to get to Walmart. I think the traffic light pattern there needs to be looked at very seriously.
