— An 11-year-old Hope Mills boy died Sunday evening after being injured in an all-terrain vehicle accident while visiting friends south of Fayetteville, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

Ayed Alsaiti was riding an ATV when the child driving it lost control and crashed at 6501 Lake Barbour Road, said Debbie Tanna, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office. A person flagged down a passing Fayetteville police officer, who performed CPR on the boy, but he died at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Ayed was not wearing a helmet, authorities said.

His body will be sent to the Office of the State Medical Examiner in Chapel Hill for an autopsy.

Another glaring example of parental negligence. The age of the second child is not listed but I assume it was under 16. Unless the victim managed to sneak away without the parents knowledge, they should be charged with extreme neglect and jailed. ATV's are by their nature dangerous and riding one is risky and should be undertaken only by someone that is capable of understanding the risks and accepts them. I ride a motorcycle and accept the inherent risks involved. I am an adult and am able to judge for myself if the risks are worth it, children are not.

How many kids have to be killed on these things before adults finally realize that they are NOT toys??? What kind of parent gives a child the key to such a machine in the first place???
