WILSON, N.C. — A child drowned Sunday in a Wilson County pond.

Wilson 911 received a call at 8:20 a.m. about a possible drowning at 5046 Webb Lake Road.

The caller said his 22-month-old son had fallen into a pond. Operators gave CPR instruction to the boy's parents until a sheriff's deputy and EMS responders arrived.

The child, Dakota Spirit Lynch, was transported to Wilson Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1 p.m., authorities said.

Investigators said they are treating the case as an accidental drowning. They said they believe the child walked out of the house, possibly following his dog, and fell into the pond.

The investigation was continuing Sunday evening.
