Bonner Bridge, Highway 12, Ocracoke Island reopen after Hurricane Arthur
Bonner Bridge and a portion of N.C. Highway 12, which were closed Friday after Hurricane Arthur blew through the North Carolina coast, reopened Saturday afternoon.

“I want to thank our entire team for their service and hard work on the July 4th national holiday to get N.C. 12 and the Bonner Bridge reopened so quickly after the storm," state transportation Secretary Tony Tata said in a statement. "Safety is always our first priority, but we also know how important it is to get our Hatteras Island residents back home, and our beach tourism back on line."
N.C. 12 was impassable Friday because of sand, water and downed power lines left on the road in the wake of Hurricane Arthur. The road was closed from south of the Bonner Bridge to Ocracoke Island.
Ocracoke Island will be open to the public beginning at 7 a.m. Sunday. According to Dare County authorities, the first unrestricted ferry from Cedar Island departs at 7:00 a.m. Sunday, from Swan Quarter at 7:00 a.m., and from Hatteras at 7:35 a.m.
The National Park Service campground on Ocracoke will remain closed.
