FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — About 1,000 students were evacuated from two Fort Bragg schools Wednesday afternoon following a bomb threat, post officials said.

The threat was reported around noon to administrators at Shugart elementary and middle schools. An ordnance team cleared the buildings a short time later. Nothing was found, officials said.

"Our school evacuation and emergency procedures worked as we have rehearsed and tested them," said Tom McCollum, a post spokesman.

Students were moved to “secure locations” in the Linden Oaks community, officials said, and the public was asked to avoid the area during the investigation.

Students were released to the parents and guardians about 2 p.m.
